When Micah and I sat down to talk through what a photoshoot for his brand might look like, it was a crayon box of ideas and images, but one thing was very clear, that the photos represent who he is as "Micah." Micah had great ideas on colors, shadows, and the emotion of what he wanted captured. So like any photographer with an enthusiastic and willing subject I said lets start at sunrise....
Morning light is always beautiful and that morning started at 6 am, bright and early. My friend Gia and I arrived in down town Durham, NC before anyone was awake. We arrived at our favorite coffee spot, Parker and Otis grabbed some caffeine and watched the scene of Durham in the morning unfold. Shortly Micah rolled in more awake than myself, but his enthusiasm was electric and I quickly jumped to work helping him choose his wardrobe....
I think some blues and grays and maybe some black skinnies would do the trick and Micah agreed. The first 5 minutes of shooting was like a first date. We had to get to know each other a little; ask those questions that break the air and make us feel comfortable like friends. During these 5 minutes I saw that Micah was a person of great joy, creativity and quirkiness balanced by deep thoughts and passion. This is what I wanted to capture. Honestly all my ideas I had for the day were thrown out and these photos took their place.
